Vehicle Description:

The owner of this beautiful low mileage, original 1990 7 Up Limited-Edition Mustang believes he is the 4th owner of the car. The car was originally sold by L.B. Smith Ford in Lemoyne PA. The car comes with the original Warranty Information Booklet, The Mustang 1990 Operating Guide, The Ford 1990 Electronic Sound System Operating Guide, the 1990 Mustang/Thunderbird/Cougar/Ford/Grand Marquis Maintenance Schedule and Record Log, the original Goodyear Limited Warranty Policy booklet, the 1990 Mustang Owner Guide, the convertible top boot and the Haynes Mustang Shop Manual. There is also a bottle of touch up paint.

Under previous ownership weld-in sub frame connectors and a Short Throw Shifter were installed, improving the performance and drivability of the car.

The current owner purchased the car on 11/11/2011, and said it had approximately 23,000 at that time. He only drove a few times on nice days.

These were add-ons put on by the previous owner, a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer in Ft. Worth.

Steeda full length subframe connectors (much improved ride)
Steeda Tri-ax shifter (much improved shifting)
Ford Racing leather shift boot (upgrade over vinyl)
Ford Racing leather shift knob (similar to later cobra an upgrade over rubber)
Flowmaster 40 series mufflers (very nice sound, but not overwhelming).

Apart from these modifications/improvements, this car is an excellent example of the 7 Up promotional vehicles. The originality is evidenced by the retention of the rubber boot on the distributor, the original plug wires, distributor cap, radiator hoses, mini spare tire, the Ford Motorsport serpentine belt and under hood labels.

The driver’s side seat shows some wrinkles in the leather, the passenger and rear seat are pristine. The car was recently professionally detailed with only a couple minor scratches in the paint on the driver’s side front fender. There is no rust in the vehicle.

Fuel Injected 5.0L/225 HP V8 engine
Dual exhaust
Traction-loc rear axle
Power rack and pinion steering
Power front disc, rear drum brakes
Air conditioning
Remote mirrors
Tinted glass
Leather-wrapped steering wheel

The 7-Up Mustang

In December of 1989, Ford Motor Company started production of the Limited-Edition Mustang. Only two cars were built this month. Ful production began February 2, 1990, and ended May 29, 1990. These cars were built on the LX convertible platform. All convertibles started out as coupes and had the hard top removed before being shipped to Cars & Concept io Brighton, MI to have the hardtop installed. Originally, 5,000 were to be assembled at the Dearborn Rouge complex, but in the end only 4,103 were built.

Ford and the 7-Up Bottling Co. teamed up to give away thirty (30) cars at the conclusion of the 1990 NCAA collegiate basketball tournament. In order to win a car, you had to sink a basket in one try from center court. This was supposed to occur at halftime of the championship game. According to the Ford Motor Company, for some reason, the giveaway never materialized.

The deep Emerald Green clearcoat metallic paint was new for the Mustang as was the oxford white dashboard and console. Factory 15” GT wheels were also added. Engines for the Limited Edition as the 5.0L (302 c.i.) H.O. Transmissions were the 4-speed AOD and the Borg Warner T-5. The cars were all to be auto’s but Ford decided to build 5-speeds also. Standard axle ratio for all cars is the (M) codde2.73. 5 speed cars free upgrade is the (Z) code3.08m while the automatic cars upgrade is the E code 3.27.

Other features of this vehicle were matching color-keyed body side moldings, fascia molding and the side view mirrors. All cars came with Special Value Package #245, which included Speed Control, AM/FM Cassette Premium Sound, (which could be deleted for credit) and manual A/C. New for 1990 was the Supplemental Restraint System or (SRS). This is the combination of driver airbag and shoulder belts. Because of this airbag, the tilt wheel was deleted in ’90.

The white leather interior, code (CZ) boasted power lumbar and side bolster support. The front section of the seats has a manual three position movement for added comfort. Power windows and the power lock group, (windows, doors, trunk) were also added. The center armrest was deleted in 1990 due to weight savings but reappeared late in the year due to customer demand.

The convertible tops added at Cars & Concepts have a power up/down dash mounted switch. An in-depth article on the installation can be found in the July ’90 edition of Mustang Monthly. It shows pictures, and it looks like a Limited Edition one. Maybe it’s your car.

The special paint color, code (PA) was only supposed to be on our cars, but customer demand won out and Ford offered it on selected models in 1991. The color code (PA) in 1990 has seven (7) shades. If you need repainting, you will need to know your build date.
